Energy Procurement and Sustainability Consultant

Full Time – UK

Hi, we're Northern Gas and Power

Northern Gas and Power (a subsidiary of Global Procurement Group) is a global energy procurement consultant and is the largest energy consultancy in Europe. We guide businesses of all sizes ranging from SMEs to global organisations in purchasing their energy contracts.

We set up comprehensive strategies for organisations to procure their energy contracts, negotiate contracts with energy suppliers, introduce and operate risk management frameworks; collect, check and analyse invoices, and calculate their GHG emissions and carbon footprints.

Our consultancy is supported by our unique ClearVUE platform that brings together and visualises information from a global energy portfolio down to the last detail – helping our clients work towards their net zero goals and ensuring compliance with climate-related legislation.

Our people are what define us. Every day we empower our employees to achieve more and explore exciting career opportunities.

Employee wellbeing is at the forefront of our organisational values, consistently making Northern Gas and Power the employer of choice within the B2B energy procurement sector.

We are a global organisation. Our workforce is 850+ strong, spanning across three continents with modern and vibrant offices in the UK, France, Malta, India and the USA.

The opportunity

For this role, we are looking to hire an Energy Procurement and Sustainability Consultant EPSC to support our UK clients. You will be part of our Energy Procurement team.

Your primary responsibilities will be cold calling UK businesses to establish their energy procurement requirements and exploring solutions that best fit their needs.

In this role, you will play a key part in helping maintain and grow our vast network of business energy consumers. As an organisation we now collectively manage over 30,000 business energy portfolios and we actively manage over 20 TWh of energy (more than the annual consumption of Iceland combined!)

A successful EPSC has a winning attitude, consistently meets targets, and grows their client portfolio through proactive customer engagement and strategic, disciplined prospect management. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, driven and motivated to succeed with a winning attitude.

What is the job about?

Here are some of the common questions you will help your customers answer:

  • How do I deal with the current price volatility in energy markets?
  • How do I put together a good purchasing strategy?
  • How do I negotiate my energy contracts?
  • How do I minimise and manage risk for my business?
  • How do I ‘green’ my energy supply?
  • How do I achieve net carbon zero?

What exactly will you do?

As a consultant you will be required to engage various activities such as:

  • Cold calling potential clients and explaining the benefits of using Northern Gas and Power’s services and solutions.
  • Analysis of current procurement strategy. Determine the customer’s current purchasing strategy and find ways to improve it.
  • Risk management. Based on analysis and a client’s strategic profile, you will pro-actively advise clients on procurement options to mitigate risks and deliver savings with your procurement strategy.
  • Tender preparations and supplier negotiations. You will be required to prepare tenders to our panel of 87 international energy suppliers & negotiate the best procurement contract for your clients.
  • Quotation analysis. You will provide analysis of energy contract proposals to your clients. You will analyse offers, edit comparative spreadsheets, comment the results of your analysis to clients and lead the negotiation process.
  • Close the deal and onboard the client. Once a deal has been closed you will follow our processes and onboard your clients onto our internal CRM system – so computer literacy is essential.
  • Manage client relationships. Once you have started to build your client portfolio, you will act as their single point of contact – managing their energy needs and monitoring your pipeline for renewal or further business opportunities.

You will receive a thorough onboarding process, where we will give you full industry and sales training, everything you need to onboard your first client. After this you will be equipped to develop and manage your own client portfolio, enjoying a great deal of independence in organising your time and work schedule. We expect you to interact regularly with management on all matters regarding energy and your clients, and to evolve quickly into the role of an experienced EPSC – acting as single point of contact for all your clients and their energy needs.

What we’re looking for

  • Sales experience (B2B, B2C, F2F, D2D or similar)
  • Can manage your own workload and pipeline
  • Self-motivated, with a drive and passion for success
  • Ability to work under pressure when needed and still achieve targets
  • Excellent telephone manner and communication skills – professional and articulate
  • Driven character, enthusiastic and passionate
  • Computer literacy
  • An ability to work in fast-paced, self-directed, professional environment
  • Team player

Bonus points

  • Experience in the Utilities/Energy industry

What’s in it for you?

  • Industry-leading compensation package: Negotiable base salary (£35,000 – £70,000 DoE) + uncapped commission with an OTE of £110k
  • Rapidly growing user base: Work directly with some of the UK’s largest, fastest growing, and most innovative companies
  • Solve interesting problems, at scale: Deeply explore the ever-evolving world of energy procurement, with no two solutions ever being the same
  • Learn from industry-leading experts: We have cultivated some of best talent in the industry, allowing you to supercharge your career progression and learn from the best minds out there
  • Work-life balance: No late finishes, keep your plans with friends and family
  • Career growth: We enjoy promoting from within!
  • Unrivalled perks (including but not limited to):
    • 23 days annual leave + public holidays
    • Full month of December off (fully paid)
    • Wellbeing, gym and spa discounts and access to 1:1 sessions with our in-house Health & Wellbeing team
    • Company parties and retreats abroad
    • Festival and Events tickets (such as Silverstone, Wimbledon, Tomorrowland and Lost & Found!)
    • Top 10 Club (this includes free parking, free car valets, a paid for-food shop and much more!)
