Job Duties & Responsibilities

Global Procurement Group (GPG) an international group of companies specialising in energy services and technologies that transform energy behaviour as we move into a low-carbon economy. The group recently posted revenues of £67m for 2020, with the latest accounts detailing growth at 40% p.a. from 2017 – 2020.

GPG continues to expand rapidly, with operations in Gateshead, Newcastle and Leeds (UK), Paris and Malta (Europe), Texas (US) and Chennai (India). GPG will employ 1,000 heads by the end of the year.

The UK trading arm, Northern Gas and Power, are the UK’s largest energy consultancy. Managing energy assets for over 20,000 clients, we manage over 30TWhs of energy – more than the entire annual consumption of Ireland.

We have seriously ambitious growth plans.

Your Role:

The Chief People Officer (CPO) is responsible for reimagining GPG’s structure and policies. They will drive HR and People best practices and initiatives and provide strategic direction and expertise for the full scope of or Global function.

Reporting to the CEO with a channel to the CFO, the CPO will develop and execute our People strategy for the Group and partner with the SMT to execute on the vision globally.

The CPO will serve as a thought partner to the CEO, CFO and SMT, providing People advisory services regarding leadership, coaching, employee relations, talent acquisition, engagement, culture, compensation, organisational design and change, performance management and learning and development.

Key Responsibilities:

Line Management responsibility for the People Leadership team, which currently comprises of teams based in the UK, France, and Malta.  Existing teams consist of a UK HR team who are responsible for UK, USA and Malta and a French HR team responsible for France.

Strategic:

• Develop and implement a People plan to align with overall mission and strategy of GPG, resulting in innovative best practices and policies that service the full range of GPG’s People and HR needs and help build high-performing culture of success, accountability, transparency, and collaboration.
• Act as strategic partner to all members of Senior Management Team (SMT), especially CFO and CEO, and provide insightful, innovative thinking and problem solving on critical People issues.
• Optimise people department, modernise, and refine key processes and activities aligned toward achieving strategic objectives.
• Provide People and HR guidance on special projects, HR analytics & reporting, talent reviews, training, change management, organisational design, diversity, and inclusion.

Operational:

• Proactively manage resource allocation and maintain competitive approach to recruiting and assimilating high-potential talent throughout the world
• Advise on processes to enhance talent attraction, retention, development, and succession
• Partner with Finance in overseeing departmental budget and headcount
• Develop comprehensive approaches to employee development, retention and onboarding by refining compensation and benefits, career paths and employee development, succession planning, and learning opportunities as appropriate to the needs of GPG
• Oversee compensation practices and philosophy to ensure salary benchmarking and surveys are handled on a regular basis
• Respond to People & HR demands of a global, highly matrixed organisation with geographically distributed offices; assist in articulating global HR policy at the country and regional level.
• Direct the People team in supporting Performance Management, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Engagement, Benefits, Rewards, Visa and Immigration, Policy and Compliance
• Interact with vendors/external partners to create and maintain relationships and negotiate contracts
• Partner with Legal to ensure compliance and mitigate organisational risks

Technology:

• We have recently partnered with People HR an HRIS and ATS. The CPO will hold overall responsibility for ensuring this system is adding value to our day-to-day operations.
  To be able to produce valuable and insightful reporting to allow for continuous improvement.
• Partner with IT and our development teams in Malta and India to continuously improve the use of technology to deliver and drive improvements with all things people related.
• Automate and streamline process using the most up to date technology
• Ensure GDPR compliance with employee data.

Culture and Development:

• Facilitate integration of diverse workgroups, cultures, and new colleagues.
• Counsel SMT in developing their teams to achieve improved performance and engagement.
• Counsel, coach, and guide people in addressing concerns and complaints to guarantee fair and equitable treatment while ensuring compliance with local regulations and practices.
• Coach and mentor fellow colleagues/managers and develop leadership bench strength capable of addressing the challenges of a highly dynamic organisation
• Mediate employee relations and performance issues and provide counsel to fellow managers on appropriate methods of performance management.

Leadership and Communication:

• Design the people organisational strategy and monitor performance objectives.
• Take proactive steps to collaborate with members from other teams/departments
• Positively handle criticisms, complaints, and special requests
• Liaise directly with CEO, communicating insights and providing reports when necessary.

Personal Attributes

Experience, Skills, Qualifications:

• FCIPD or equivalent
• Experiences of managing people and teams of various sizes in dispersed locations, preferably in global regions of Europe, USA and India demonstrating a strong cultural awareness.
• Broad and deep experience as a Generalist People Business Partner supporting executives or senior leadership.
• Ability to motivate, engage, and influence others through content and presentations; must be a dynamic speaker with proven ability to get participants excited about topics presented.
• General business and financial acumen with the ability to develop and utilise HR data and metrics as they relate to- and impact business topics in Finance, Legal, IT, payroll, and administration.
• Excellent communications skills – written, verbal and interpersonal – and an ability to tailor communication style to diverse audiences globally.
• Demonstrated capability in adapting and innovating HR practices and solutions and sizing them to the needs of a fluid and fast-paced, entrepreneurial organisation.
• Results-driven, agile, change agent with the commitment and confidence to assume a leadership role in an evolving complex environment.
• Unquestionable personal integrity, fairness, and credibility necessary to gain the trust and commitment of individuals at all levels of the organisation.
• Demonstrated success at cultivating strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and creating partnerships at all levels within the organization to achieve results.
